Tips When Selling at a Craft Fairsubmitted on 14 February 2014
Many of you will be selling your work at craft fairs so here are six tips which might help your sales.
1) Research the fair you are thinking of attending to make sure it is likely to attract people interested in your products. There may be another one in the area on the same day that would be more suitable. Try to get advice on which are the best fairs to attend from fellow crafters.
2) Make sure the items you take are right for the particular craft fair. You may have some more expensive items that are better suited to some fairs than others.
3) Get your display right - it needs to stand out and make customers want to look at your products. Remember that your visitors will be stood up so don't put everything at a low level - try to get some height to your display.
4) Look friendly and approachable when visitors come to your stall. Try to get them talking and make sure you sound enthusiastic about your products. Some people may find this direct selling the hardest part of the day, but you need to get comfortable doing it as it should help your sales.
5) You may find other people selling similar items to you on the day, possibly at lower prices. Know what your competitors are selling and be able to explain to customers why your items are worth more. It may be better design, quality of materials used or some other reason. It's not always about price.
6) Don't limit your sales by putting yourself in a niche market. For instance, if your stand has a strong traditional country cottage feel you may put off people looking for more modern pieces. Broaden your appeal rather than limiting it.
I hope you have found these tips useful.
